PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Najib Razak today called on all Members of Parliament to “really listen and digest” the 2018 Budget which he is tabling at Parliament, today.
He said, this is to ensure that everyone in this country could benefit from the allocations given, which is in line with the government’s efforts to cater to all Malaysians regardless of their background.
“Let’s enjoy what the government will be serving today. There’s a saying that ‘those who are hasty will end in loss’ (orang yang terburu-buru tergolong dalam kumpulan yang rugi),” he said in his opening speech when tabling the 2018 Budget at the Parliament here today.
The prime minister also expressed disappointment with “a man” whom he said had recently insulted the Bugis community.
Although Najib did not mention names, it is seen as a clear jibe against former premier and also his most vocal critic, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who recently made a deragatory remark against the community.
“As the government is making effort to better serve the people and the nation, it is sad to see a man insulting the Bugis community. But that’s okay. What’s important is that we continue to be generous.
“The Kedahans has a saying that ‘Kedahans are good people’ but only that one person who forgets easily (muda lupa).
“The Barisan Nasional government is sincere in doing our job for the country and the people,” he said.
Dr Mahathir recently was alleged to have said that Malaysia was led by a prime minister who descended from Bugis pirates.
Following his remark, a coalition of Johor and Selangor Bugis associations submitted a memorandum to Dr Mahathir on Wednesday, demanding the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman to apologise.
